Department of Mechanical Engineering is hosting Fulbright Professor

The Department meeting held on August 3rd 2009 has welcomed Prof. Yogendra Jonchhe as Fulbright scholar. The meeting was attended by Prof. Dr. Bhola Thapa, Dean at School of Engineering, Dr. Bim Prasad Shrestha, HOD, Department of Mechanical Engineering, Mr. Binod Raj Siwakoti, UG Coordinator and other faculty members. 

Prof. Jonchhe has signatory contribution in the promotion of Mechanical Engineering Technology in New York State for last 30 years of academic involvement as a faculty member in State University of New York (SUNY) Alfred State College.

Prof. Jonchhe is recipient of the Outstanding Research Activities Award from SUNY, Colleges of Technology, and Research Council. It was based on his applied research activities such as involvement in Gleasman Stepless Geared Transmission research, development & testing, Electric Car Research Project, Diesel fuel additives research, Ethanol blended fuels research, Biodiesel fuel analytical study, automotive emission research and investigation of hydraulic turbines.

Prof. Jonchhe has been very active with New York State Engineering Technology Association (NYSETA) for the last 25 years. He has hosted NYSETA meeting at Alfred State College in the year of 2007 with the key responsible of making keynote speech, technical sessions, vendors and industrial tours.

Besides his involvement in New York state, Prof. Jonchhe has landmark contribution of international educational activities, he has undertaken similar assignments in 1996-97 as  Professor/Consultant Institute of Technology Tun Hussein Onn(ITTHO) Dept. of Mechanical Engineering, Batu Pahat, Johor, Malaysia through Alfred State College under contract from MUCIA (Midwestern Universities Consortium In America) led by Purdue University with World Bank funding. The assignment involved teaching, laboratory and curriculum development which also proved to be a great professional development and scholarly activity.

Currently, Prof. Jonchhe is directly involved in teaching and research work at Department of Mechanical Engineering at Kathmandu University where he is teaching Engineering Mechanics for undergraduate students and Internal Combustion Engine for graduate students. He has strong enthusiasm to develop applied research in the field of bio based energy such as Bio fuel at Kathmandu University during his stay in Nepal.

The department of Mechanical Engineering at Kathmandu University feels greatly privileged and honored to host such distinguished personalities from US academia.

Last year, Prof. Rama S. Gorla from Cleveland State University made significant contribution to this department under same program, which eventually brought fruitful collaboration between Kathmandu University and Cleveland State University through Memorandum of understanding signed by both the Universities.

The Department of Mechanical Engineering highly appreciates the support and trust extended to this department by US Government, Fulbright commission and the citizen of United States of America.
