Senior cultural specialist Satya Mohan Joshi launched the book Kathmandu bishwabidhyalaya: Kathin Yatra Ka Pailaharu (Kathmandu University: Strides of Difficult Journey) written by Prof. Suresh Raj Sharma, vice-chancellor of Kathmandu University, on 25 July in Russian Center for Science and Culture. Speaking at the program, Mr. Joshi called the book an autobiography of the University and added that it depicts Prof. Sharma and his team’s endeavor to materialize their mission and vision. Dr. Kamal Krishna Joshi, Chairperson of University Grants Commission (UGC), also praised the book for its depiction of reality but wished that the book, in another edition, would mention the contribution of UGC also. Another speaker Kamal Mani Dixit described the book as a true representation of Prof. Sharma’s venture into almost impossible task. Prof. Sharma, he added, is a swallow that makes a very beautiful nest with its mere beak. Neils, the chief architect of the University, explained the philosophy behind every design. Number 3, he added, is a guiding principle in the entire design.  The book, senior litterateur Jagadish Ghimire stated, is a fascinating account of hardship and success of a man who has vision. Recalling his first encounter with the book, he said, it drew his attention until the end. He hoped the book would spread the message of optimism when the whole nation is sick with skeptics and pessimists.  Prof. Sharma concluded the program recalling the history of the University since its inception. At a time there was no trust among the possible stakeholders, he recalled, the task to initiate a university seemed almost impossible. But, it is due to the faith that the University could generate, the task has reached this stage, he said.
