A One-Day Workshop at DoNS on Evidence-Based Teaching

Dr. Herb Fynewever, a Fulbright senior scholar from Calvin College, Grand Rapids, Michigan, USA, conducted a one-day workshop on evidence-based teaching in chemistry.  The workshop was organized by the Department of Natural Sciences (DoNS), School of Science.

Prof. Dr. Jyoti Upadhyaya, Head of DoNS, Faculties from the Chemistry Group, DoNS, and Lecturers from Tribhuvan University attended the workshop.

International Conference on Social Entrepreneurship

Kathmandu University Business Incubation Center (KUBIC) is collaborating with King’s College, Kathmandu, for the first International Conference in Nepal on Social Entrepreneurship (CSE) being organized during November 26-27, 2015

All papers should provide the details of all authors (specifying the corresponding author) and an ‘Abstract’ of not more than 500 words.

Abstract and Paper Submissions: Presenters/Authors are invited to submit the abstract on or before September 30, 2015, and the full paper on or before November 10, 2015 in MS Word by e-mail to conference@kingscollege.edu.np.

Acceptance/Rejection of abstracts will be communicated by or before October 15, 2015.

Call for Application in Master of Pharmacy (MPharm) – 2015

 

Entry Requirement:
Candidates with BPharm or equivalent degree with minimum CGPA of 2.5.

Specialization Areas:
1. Industrial Pharmacy
2. Pharmaceutical Care

Course Duration:
The duration for the regular MPharm program is two years.

Seats:
10 (from the merit list of entrance exam) + 4 (corporate seats for the pharmaceutical
companies/ institutions having MoU with KU) for each specialization area.

Application Form Distribution:
Application Forms can be collected from Department of Pharmacy, Kathmandu University,
Dhulikhel from 09 August, 2015 in between 10:00 am and 3:00 pm during working days.

Last date for submitting forms:
21 August, 2015

Application fee:
NRs 1250/- to be deposited in bank account of Kathmandu University at Nepal Investment Bank
Ltd.

Entrance Exam and Interview:

Entrance Exam will be held as per following schedule:

Prof. Jha and Dr. Shrestha Elected in NMS-EC

Prof. Dr. Kanhaiya Jha and Dr. Samir Shrestha from Department of Natural Sciences, School of Science, have been elected, respectively as the Secretary and Member, in the newly formed eleven-member Executive Committee of Nepal Mathematical Society (NMS) led by Prof. Dr. Tanka Nath Dhamala of Tribhuvan University (TU).

Prof. Jha and Dr. Shrestha were elected to the executive posts of NMS in its 37th Anniversary and General Assembly held on 1 August 2015 at Central Department of Mathematics, TU, Kirtipur, Kathmandu.

Prof. Dr. Hira Bahadur Maharjan, Vice-Chancellor of TU, was the chief guest of  the program.

Annual PhD Progress Reporting Seminar

Office of the Dean, School of Science (SoS), is organizing an Annual Progress Reporting Seminar during 3-4 August 2015 for PhD candidates enrolled at the School.

Altogether thirty-six candidates are reported to be registered at SoS, of which 3 are in Biotechnology, 21 in Environmental Science & Engineering, 11 in Natural Sciences, and 1 in Pharmacy.

SoS allows a faculty to supervise a maximum of six PhD candidates at a time.

All faculties from School of Science and interested students are invited to attend the seminar at CV Raman Auditorium from 9.30 am onwards.

DoME Receives Project Approval in Erasmus+ Program

The Department of Mechanical Engineering (DoME) has been granted an Erasmus + project entitled, “Curricula Development of Interdisciplinary Master Courses in Energy Efficient Building Design in Nepal and Bhutan.” The project involves in collaboration with a) Lund University b) University of Innsbruck c) Tallinn University d) Tribhuvan University and e) Royal University of Bhutan.

The project is under the section KA2-Cooperation for innovation and the exchange of good practice of the action ‘Capacity Building in Higher Education’, called Erasmus + (Ref: EAC-A04-2014).

The main objectives of this project are to:

  • Develop a new Master program on Energy Efficient Building Technique (EEBT);
  • Support existing Master programs through development of laboratory facilities and establishment of new courses;
  • Graduate Masters in EEBT who can meet the market needs of the partner countries in order to establish sustainable energy development and efficient energy practices;
  • Improve exchange of advanced knowledge in EEB.

The major responsibility of Kathmandu University in the overall project is to support for the development of new Master courses in EEBT, develop and enhance laboratory facilities with manual and maintenance schedule, teaching tools and techniques.

The project is being handled by DoME. Prof. Dr. Bhola Thapa, Registrar, Dr. Hari Prasad Neopane, Head of DoME, and Mr. Sailesh Chitrakar, PhD Fellow at Turbine Testing Lab, are the contact persons for KU.
