Ubiquitous Learning System and Research Lab at DoCSE

Mr. Caevin Shin from South Korea donated equipment (tablets, servers and high beam projector) necessary to set up the U-learning system (Ubiquitous learning) lab at the Department of Computer Science and Engineering (DoCSE), School of Engineering.

Mr. Shin handed necessary equipments to Dr. Manish Pokharel, Head of the Department.


Before equipment handover, Mr. Shin presented on “U-learning and its importance in University” and demonstrated the system. At the beginning, Associate Dean Prof. Dr. Bim Prasad Shrestha and Prof. Dr. Janardhan Lamichanne highlighted the importance of Ubiquitous Learning System in Kathmandu University.

The program was attended by the faculties of DoCSE, staffs of ISMS and E-learning center as well as the IT person from Kathmandu University Dhulikhel Hospital.

KU and Investment Board of Nepal Sign an MoU

Kathmandu University and Investment Board of Nepal have officially agreed to forge into a partnership through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).

The MoU was signed by Prof. Dr. Bhola Thapa, Registrar of KU, and Mr. Radhesh Pant, CEO of Investment Board, in the presence of Prof. Dr. Ram Kantha Makaju Shrstha, Vice Chancellor of KU. 


The MoU signing took place on 11 August 2015 in a special function organized at the Office of Investment Board, New Baneswar.


Prof. Dr. Mohan Bikram Gewali, Dean of School of Science, Prof. Dr. Bim Prasad Shrestha, Associate Dean for Research at School of Engineering, Dr. Rajendra Koju, Associate Dean of School of Medical Science, Dr. Manish Pokharel, Head of Department of Computer Science and Engineering, and a number of high level officials from Investment Board attended the program.

KUSoEd PhD Thesis Selected for an International Award

The PhD thesis of Prakash C Bhattarai, a recent PhD completer from School of Education, has been selected for the 2015 Paul T. Begley Award.

The thesis is entitled Ethical Leadership in Nepali Technical and Vocational Education and Training Schools: A Convergent Mixed Methods Study.

The award will be presented by Consortium for the Study of Leadership and Ethics in Education (CSLEE) at its 20th Annual Conference (website:http://sites.psu.edu/cslee20/) to be held at the Nittany Lion Inn in University Park, Pennsylvania from October 15-17, 2015. The Awards ceremony will be held on Friday, October 16.

This award is given annually to a recently completed thesis for its contributions to the field of values, ethics, and leadership in education.

Opening Ceremony and Workshop of KOICA-APP program with SNU

KOICA-APP program, a collaborative research program between KU and Seoul National University (SNU), organized an opening ceremony and workshop on August 4 and 5 at the main campus, Dhulikhel. The program was jointly launched by His Excellency Mr. Yong Jin Choe,  Korean Ambassador to Nepal,  and Prof. Dr. Bhola Thapa Registrar, KU.




This academic partnership program aims to establish  KS B &W Center at KU for industrialization of the natural resources of Nepal.

During the project opening ceremony His Excellency Mr.  Choe, and Prof. Thapa, Prof. Mohan Bikram Gewali, Dean of School of Science, KU, and Prof. Byung Gee Kim of SNU highlighted the significance of the KOICA-APP program.

The opening ceremony was followed by a workshop on the water and bio-project of KS B &W Center. Speakers from KU, SNU, Government of Nepal and the industry shed lights on the importance of water and the natural resources for industrialization in Nepal.

  1. Register your name for Computer-based Test (CBT).

    • Candidates are required to register online before visiting the admissions office for admission cards.

    • Online registration form is available at http://apply.ku.edu.np/cbt from August 11, 2015 to August 25, 2015.

    • A valid email id is required for registration. Confirmation link and confirmation code will be sent by email. Be sure to click on the confirmation link and enter the confirmation code.

  1. Pay the required CBT and admission application processing fee of Rs.1,250 to any one of the following KU accounts at any branch of the banks mentioned below. Note that late applicants are required to pay double fee of Rs. 2,500.

  1. Obtain an admission card for the entrance exam.

    • Visit admissions office located at Block 08, KU main campus, Dhulikhel from August 12, 2015 to August 21, 2015 between 10:00 AM and 3:00 PM with your photo identification document (citizenship card, passport etc.), a photocopy of the identification document, 3 recent PP-size photographs and a bank voucher of Rs. 1,250. Admission card can be obtained with double fee of Rs. 2,500 from August 23, 2015 to August 25, 2015 between 10:00 AM and 3:00 PM.

    • Make an appointment for CBT and collect admission card.

  1. Appear on Computer Based Entrance Exam.

    • Appear at the examination hall at least 15 minutes before the commencement of the examination.

    • Do not forget to bring your admit card and identification document along with you.

    • Wrist watches and simple scientific calculators are allowed. Be sure to erase any formula or data written on the cover of your calculator or in its internal memory before bringing it to the exam.

    • Other electronic items and written materials are not permitted inside the examination hall.

    • Failing to comply with above guidelines may disqualify you from the admission process.

  1. Fill up the online application form.

    • The online application form will be available from August 23, 2015 to September 5, 2015 at http://apply.ku.edu.np/admission.

    • Use the login credentials provided during CBT registration to log into the online application system.

    • Fill up the personal and academic information.

    • Select up to two academic programs of your preference. Note that you will be offered an admission in at most one program even if you select two programs. If you are interested in only one program, you are advised to select the program of your choice as 1st preference and leave the 2nd preference option unselected.

    • Partially completed forms can be saved and edited later, however, you will not be able to make any changes once the form is submitted.

    • Be sure to submit the completed online application form before the deadline.

The online practice test is intended to make the applicants familiar with the Computer Based Test (CBT) and has two parts with five questions each.

The number of questions, topics and difficulty level do not reflect the actual computer based entrance exam.

The actual computer based entrance exam:

  • has three parts: PCM or PCB, with 120 questions in total. Each part has 40 multiple choice questions.
  • is 2 hour long.
  • is not available online.
  • is graded on the scale of 0 – 2220

New Program: Chemical Engineering at KU for the First Time in Nepal

Kathmandu University is going to lauch Bachelor of Engineering in Chemical Engineering, from fall 2015.

This Undergraduate program in Chemical Engineering has been introduced for the first time in Nepal with an aim to fulfill the ever-growing demand of chemical engineers for sustainable development of industries and production sectors in Nepal. The total intake to the program is 30.

KU Academic Council has decided to establish Department of Chemical Science & Engineering under School of Engineering.

KU Signs MoU with LMTC and CTEVT

Kathmandu University (KU) and Land Management Training Centre (LMTC) renewed their Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to run Bachelor of Engineering in Geomatics Engineering.

Prof. Dr. Bhola Thapa, Registrar, KU, and Mr. Krishna Raj BC, Executive Director, LMTC, signed the MoU on August 02, 2015 in Ministry of Land Reform and Management (MoLRM), Kathmandu.




In the same occasion, Prof. Dr. Thapa, Mr. B.C. and Dr. Ram Hari Lamichhane, Member Secretary, Council for Technical Education and Vocational Training (CTEVT) signed another MoU to start Diploma in Geomatics Engineering.

Honorable Minister (MoLRM) Mr. Dal Bahadur Rana, Prof. Dr. Ram Kantha Makaju Shrestha, Vice Chancellor, KU, Mr. Naghendra Jha, Joint Secretary, MoLRM, Mr. B.C. and Dr. Lamichhane addressed the MoU signing ceremony.



Prof. Dr. Ramesh Kumar Maskey, Associate Dean, SoE (Academic Administration); Prof. Dr. Bim Prasad Shrestha, Associate Dean, SoE (Research and other activities), Dr. Prachand Man Pradhan, Acting Head of DCGE and Mr. Subash Ghimire, Coordinator of Geomatics Program attended the program on behalf of KU.

Mr. Madhusudhan Adhikari, Director General, Survey Department, and other officials from MoLRM and LMTC also attended the program. Similarly, Mr. Binay Mishra and Mr. Ramesh Bogati, Directors, CTEVT, were also present in the ceremony.
