Ubiquitous Based Test at DoCSE

Department of Computer Science and Engineering (DoCSE) at Kathmandu University has successfully conducted Ubiquitous Based Test (UBT) for COMP 302, System Analysis and Design for Third Year CE and CS students.

The first time in the history of Kathmandu University, the test was held  on 26th of July 2016. The course coordinator Dr. Purusottam Kharel conducted the UBT as one of the internal examinations with the support from NS Devil and Changwon National University, South Korea.

HiCCDRC Completed a Workshop on Himalayan Glaciology and Glacio-hydrological Modeling

The Himalayan Cryosphere, Climate and Disaster Research Center (HiCCDRC), Kathmandu University, has successfully completed a Training Workshop on Himalayan Glaciology and Glacio-hydrological Modeling.

The workshop was held from 20 to 22 July 2016 in Sherubtse College, Kanglung. There were 17 participants included students and faculties. The training workshop was carried out as a part of the Himalayan University Consortium (HUC) Seed Grant Project funded by the International Centre for Integrated Mountain Development (ICIMOD).

Kathmandu University is the lead university of the capacity building project and other four partners of the project are Sherubtse College, Bhutan, Kabul University, Afghanistan, Karakorum International University, Pakistan and Hemvati Nandan Bahuguna Garhwal University, India.

The coordinator of HiCCDRC, KU, Dr. Rijan Bhakta Kayastha, conducted the training workshop as a Resource Person.



Mr. Koirala Participated in XIV Theory/Praxix Course

Mr. Punya Prasad Koirala, Lecturer at Humanities and Management Unit, School of Engineering, participated and presented talks in seminars on “Secularism and Metaphysics of Presence” in  the XIV Theory/Praxix Course held at University of Hyderabad, India, during 6 June to 2 July 2016. The Course was organized by Forum on Contemporary Theory (FCT). 

FCT has been conducting an intensive Theory/Praxis Course since 2003 for the benefit of scholars across disciplines who are interested in new developments in theory and application. The Course included intensive textual readings in specific areas, supported by seminars and talks on broader but related issues. 

The Forum, which has completed 25 years of its existence, is a member of the Consortium of the Humanities Centers  and Institutes (CHCI), so far the only member from South Asia.

1.      Appear in person in Humanities and Management Unit, School of Engineering, Dhulikhel, with original documents and admit card; and complete the admission and registration forms;

2.      Submit 3 recent photos (PP-size), proof of payment, copies of the academic certificates, transcripts, and citizenship certificate.


Admission fees NRs. 1,17,000.00 (including medical insurance of Rs. 1000.00) to Kathmandu University’s Account at any branch of the following banks:

Inter Institutional Agreement 2016-17


Between Kathmandu University (KU), Dhulikhel, Nepal,


University of Salzburg (PLUS), Salzburg, Austria

An agreement was signed under the auspices of Erasmus+ Mobility for Learners and Student between Kathmandu University, Nepal and University of Salzburg, Austria and completed on 9th June 2016 facilitated by Prof.  Dr. Subodh Sharma, Director of Research, Development & Consultancy (RDC) on behalf of Kathmandu University. The Directorate announces opportunities for an exchange visit of one faculty of GIS and Remote Sensing and one PhD scholar registered at Kathmandu University and applying GIS and Remote Sensing in research, for short term visit to the Department of Geoinformatics – Z_GIS, University of Salzburg, Austria. This visit for faculty will be between September 1st to September 30th, 2016 and student’s stay will be from September 1st to November 30th 2016.


Pre-requisites for faculty / PhD students going from KU to PLUS, besides others are as follows:


 -       Candidates must be either a Full Time Faculty or a Full/Part Time PhD student with focus on natural disaster management.

-       The candidates should submit a short proposal about what they would like to do, should have command on English language, with good hands-on experience of working with GIS and Remote Sensing software

-       Should demonstrate their previous work in the field of natural disaster management through publications or oral/poster presentations in any International Seminars/Conferences.

Announcement for Official Closure of the Research Projects, Development Projects and Consultancy (Project reported completed on or before 15 April 2015)

This is for the general information of all concerned researchers/project staff with reference to the statement 2.4 of the RDC Policy Guidelines and Procedures 2015 that a project is considered closed as soon as the final financial and technical reports are accepted by the Funding Agency. No additional monetary claim by project staff is allowed as soon as the project is closed. Principal Investigators of all the projects reported completed on or before April 2015 are in this context informed to approach the Office of the Registrar, Directorate of Research, Development & Consultancy (RDC) based in Central Office, Dhulikhel with an application for project closing or any discrepancies on or before 30 July 2016, following which a certificate of successful accomplishment of the project shall be furnished to the Principal Investigator (s) by the undersigned. No grievances of any kinds shall be entertained failing to submit the application within due date as specified herein.

For a list of the earlier projects undertaken, reference can be made to Archive in www.ku.edu.np/research selected on the basis of duration of five years. It will be highly appreciated if PIs would kindly submit electronic copies of the technical and financial details for the purpose of record keeping.

Aquatic Ecology Centre offers Post Doc Position

Aquatic Ecology Centre is seeking a highly motivated post-doctoral research associate as Work Package (WP) Leader to work on the WP title Environmental flow assessment and tool development considering macro-invertebrates in varying river typology, depths and discharge. The work package will explore the opportunity about what needs to be done in terms of the institutional and policy context in an effort to integrate Environmental Flow (EF) into water management policies. It will develop national capacity in EF so that scientists, policy makers, hydropower and irrigation developers and other key organizations are more cognizant of the importance of ecosystem services and also knowledgeable about how to enhance sustainable river basin management. This research project is supported by International Water Management Institute (IWMI).
