Call for Application to Research based temporary positions at Aquatic Ecology Centre

(first date of announcement 29 June 2016)


Aquatic Ecology Centre (AEC) is a specialized research centre at Kathmandu University based in Dhulikhel. The Centre was established in the year 2003 with the objective of improving academic activities through research and scientific networking. It also aims to impart training and providing analytical services to individuals, government and non-governmental organisations in the field of physico-chemical and biological soil and water quality examination as an income source to meet its operating expenses. AEC is chaired by the Dean of School of Science and headed by a full professor from the School of Science in the capacity of Director who is capable of generating adequate resources through external funding to the centre. There is a provision of Management Committee represented by Lab-in-charge, Research Assistants, and Researchers.

AEC is implementing a longitudinal community based research study in Jiri municipality of Dolakha district with the title “Longitudinal observation study on effectiveness of existing household and community level Water Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) interventions on health vulnerability to climate in Jiri, Nepal”. This is a DFID funded project implemented by WHO Geneva under the theme “Building Adaptation to climate change in health in least developed countries through resilient WASH” in four different countries such as Bangladesh, Ethiopia, Nepal, and Tanzania.

MoU between Lanzhou Institute of Chemical Physics and School of Science

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) is signed between Northwestern Chinese Plant Natural Compounds Bank, Lanzhou Institute of Chemical Physics, Peoples of Republic of China and School of Science, Kathmandu University.

The MoU was signed by Prof. Dr. Mohan B. Gewali, Dean of School of Science, Kathmandu University and Prof. Dr. Yanping Shi, Director, Lanzhou Institute of Chemical Physics, Lanzhou. The signing of MoU was facilitated by Prof. Dr. Janardan Lamichhane, Head, Department of Biotechnology and Prof. Junli Yang, Director, Northwestern Chinese Plant Natural Compounds Bank, P.R. China.

The MoU was developed to pursue joint research activities in the field of research of bioactive natural constituents of Chinese and Nepali Medicinal plants, and development of new natural medicines.

MoU between Royal Thimphu College and School of Science

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) has been signed between Royal Thimphu College (RTC), Royal University of Bhutan, and School of Science, Kathmandu University (SoS-KU).
This MoU was developed for the purpose of facilitating exchange activities between the institutions. RTC and SoS-KU are mutually interested in further strengthening collaboration on academic activities to increase education opportunities and to promote research collaborations. 
The MoU was signed by Prof. Dr. Mohan B. Gewali, Dean of School of Science at Kathmandu University, and Prof. Dr. Shiva Raj Bhattarai, Dean of Academic Affairs at the Royal Thimphu College, Thimphu, Bhutan. The signing of MoU was officially completed on June 24, 2016 facilitated by Prof. Dr. Subodh Sharma, Director of Research, Development & Consultancy, Kathmandu University.

Potential candidates will require completing an application form available from June 24, 2016   on payment of Rs. 500 from Kathmandu University Central Office, Dhulikhel (Tel # 011 66 13 99/ 011 66 15 11) from 10 AM to 3 PM on working days. Application form can also be downloaded from KU webpage. The completed application form must be submitted along with necessary documents not later than July 15, 2016 to KU Central Office, Dhulikhel, Kavre.  The shortlisted candidate must make a payment of Rs 1500 as test and interview fee for Assistant Professor and Rs 1200 for Lecturer at the time of collecting admit card.

Documents required: Attested copies of mark sheets of all academic qualifications/ transcripts, citizenship certificate, work and professional experience certificates (both existing and previous), training certificates, and a list & copy of major research publications.  Two recent PP size photographs should also be attached.


Salary and benefits will be as per the rule of the University.

Mr. Dhiraj Shrestha, Lecturer at the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, was invited as a Speaker to share his experience on “Building an Android app and SMS system for migrant workers,” a Community Development Project using Engaged Learning in Regional Forum on ICT Human Capacity Development and Launch of the Women and ICT Frontier Initiative (WIFI) organized by United Nations Asian and Pacific Training Centre for Information and Communication Technology for Development (UN-APCICT/ESCAP) from 9-10 June, 2016 in Incheon, Republic of Korea.

The event was held on the occasion of APCICT’s 10th Anniversary, the meeting provided the multi-stakeholder platform to engage participants from over 50 countries in a dialogue on ICT capacity development towards a sustainable future. It facilitated an exchange of ideas and perspectives on effective ICTD capacity building, identify lessons learned, and chart the way forward.

The 2-day meeting convened government leaders and policymakers as well as representatives from civil society, academia, private sector, and international organizations to engage in a dialogue on effective ICT capacity development in support of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Kathmandu University is APCICT’s Primer partner institution.

Dr. Sharma Delivered Keynote Speech in 10th ICCEM

Dr. Gajendra Sharma, Associate Professor at the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, delivered keynote speech on 'Role and Significance of IT on Crisis and Emergency Management,' during 10th International Conference on Crisis and Emergency Management (ICCEM) held at Lucern, Switzerland during June 16-19, 2016.

The participants from 15 nations presented their papers in this conference. The conference was jointly organized by International Society of Crisis and Emergency Management, Florida State University (USA), Korea IT Policy Forum (Korea) and Chinese Academy of Sciences, China.
