Invitation for Sealed Quotation for Procurement of Logistic Support

(KU-CMP Project)

Date of Publication: 1 November 2015

The Himalayan Cryosphere, Climate and Disaster Research Center (HiCCDRC), Kathmandu University (KU) want to procure a logistic support from a VAT registered trekking agency for a field research team of 11 members to Yala Glacier, Langtang Valley, Rasuwa district, Nepal with the following details:

1. Field duration: 18 November to 3 December 2015

2. Number of members: 11

3. Logistic support includes: transportation, food, lodge, camping on glacier base camp, Sherpas and guides, porters to carry personal gears and scientific equipment.


Sealed quotations with necessary documents must be submitted in the Administrative Office of KU in Dhulikhel by 7 November 2015. Eligible and experienced trekking agencies are requested to submit their logistic support cost per person per day and cost of additional porters for extra carrying weight of equipment of about 300 kgs. Kathmandu University reserves the right to accept and reject any or all the bids without assigning reasons, whatsoever.

Workshop on Human Values and Personal Transformations Kicks Off

Launching of a Course on “Human Values and Personal Transformations (27 Oct-5 Nov 2015)” was officially inaugurated as a workshop on 28 October 2015 with lightening of lamp jointly by Founder Vice Chancellor of Kathmandu University Prof. Dr. Suresh Raj Sharma and immediate past Chief Secretary of the Government of Nepal Mr. Leela Mani Paudyal.

Prof. Dr. Bishal Sitaula from Norwergian University of Life Sciences highlighted on the importance of the course. Prof. SR Sharma on the occasion spoke briefly on the past history of Kathmandu University associating the same with the rationale for introducing undergraduate honors program in Environmental Science as one of the earliest programs and pioneers in Nepal. Mr. Leela Mani Paudyal expressed basic principles of human values, which every individual must possess, and narrated briefly the success story taking example of Bagmati River cleaning campaign. Others who appreciated this initiative taken by the Department of Environmental Science and Engineering at the occasion were Prof. Dr. Bhola Thapa, Registrar and Mr. Mukunda Upadhayaya, Chief Administrative Officer.

The project is supported financially under SUNREM-Himalaya project through NORHED, and is coordinated by Prof. Dr. Roshan M. Bajracharya.

Dr. Rabindra Bista Presents in an International Conference

Dr. Rabindra Bista, Assistant Professor at the Department of Computer Science and Engineering (DOCSE), presented two papers in eHealth Asia 2015 - ICT for Post 2015 Health Challenges held on 13th and 14th October 2015 in Cinnamon Grand, Colombo, Sri Lanka.

Deadline: RDC's Urgent Call for Registration of Project Staff

All the project staffs are notified to adhere to the deadlines given (17 November 2015) for the submission of the Terms of Reference/Terms and Conditions.

Please submit the ToR to RDC Directorate and obtain Appointment Letter with RDC Ref. No. for authenticity. The staffs are also required to contact the Human Resource Manager for electronic signature to come into effect compulsorily from 17 November 2015.

RDC will not be responsible for any delay in the payment of salary or remuneration for not adhering to RA/RFs after the mentioned date.

Workshop on Human Values and Personal Transformations

Department of Environmental Science and Engineering is organizing workshop on 'Human Values and Personal Transformations' from Oct 27 to Nov 5, 2015 at High View Resort, Dhulikhel. Participants of the workkshop are M.Sc. Environment and Natural Resources students of the Department.

The Resource Persons are High Holiness Mr. Liungten Lama, Royal University of Bhutan; Dr. Chintamani Yogi; Dr. Raju Adhikai; Prof. Dr. Bishal Sitaula and Dr. Bal Chandra Luitel besides several other distinguished personalities.

This workshop will serve as a non-credit course requirement of the M.Sc. level students, and is organized with the objective of overcoming stress in youth and personality development through learning of yoga and meditation skills. It is expected that the participants of the workshop will learn to understand the role of mutual respect, which will bring harmony and happiness in the society.

Dr. Thapa and Ms. Neupane Get a Paper Published

Dr. Gunjan Bisht Thapa, Assistant Professor of Chemistry at the Department of Natural Science (DONS) and Ms. Sanjila Neupane, Department of Environmental Science and Engineering, got a paper published entitled “Impact of Brick Kilns’ Emission on Soil Quality of Agriculture Fields in the Vicinity of Selected Bhaktapur Area of Nepal” in the Applied and Environmental Soil Science (Hindawi, Sccopus indexed) [Volume 2015 (2015), Article ID 409401, doi: 10.1155/2015/409401]

This research article deals with the evaluation of soil quality and impact of brick kilns’ emission on different physicochemical parameters of soils of agricultural field, located in the vicinity of Bhaktapur, Nepal. The study was carried out by determining the physicochemical characteristics of soil, soil fertility, and heavy metal contamination of soil.

B.Sc. Environmental Science (Hons.) and B.Tech. Environmental Engineering 8th Semester students are informed that the Project Work defense is now rescheduled to earlier dates 11-12 October 2015ALL THE PRESENTATIONS WILL TAKE PLACE IN BLOCK 06: ROOM Nos 207, 208 on 11 OCT 2015 and ADDITIONALLY ROOM No. 106 WILL ALSO REMAIN OCCUPIED on 12 OCT 2015. Students of 8th Semester must be COMPULSORILY present in formal dress. As the Classrooms 207, 208 and 106 will remain occupied, students having regular classes in these rooms may thus decide to attend the Presentations subjected to availability of space.

External Examiners Er. Sandhya Regmi  (Theme: Air Pollution and Soil) and Shyam Thapa (Theme: wastes and wastewater) are available on 11 Oct 2015, whereas Profs. Madan Koirala, Sunil Adhikari, and Sadhana Pradhanang are available on 12 Oct 2015.  

All Supervisors and other Faculty members are also requested to attend the presentations along with their students.

Finance Minister Lays Foundation Stone for KU Multipurpose Hall

Hon'ble Minister for Finance Dr. Ram Sharan Mahat laid the foundation stone of KU Multipurpose Hall at the central campus, Dhulikhel.

Speaking on the occasion, Hon'ble Minister congratulated the University for its decision to construct the hall. He emphsized that the hall would fulfil the need of a space to organize high-level international programs. He also expressed the hope that the Hall would help KU strengthen its vision of quality education. Similarly, Prof. Dr. Parasar Prasad Koirala, Chairman of University Grants Commission (UGC) Nepal, highlighted that the hall would be a boon to the University and the country and that KU, as ever, could be trusted for completing the project in time. 

Prof. Dr. Ram Kantha Makaju Shrestha, Vice Chancellor, thanked everyone who believed in the University for making the dream come true. Prof. Dr. Bhola Thapa, Registrar, presented the factual details of the hall extended vote of thanks to the audience and other dignitaries.
