Ms. Thapa and Dr. Sharma Published a Research Article

Ms. Devna Singh Thapa, an MA student, and Dr. Chhatra Mani Sharma, an Assistant Professor, from School of Arts, recently published a research article in an international peer-reviewed journal. The bibliographic information and link to the article are given below:

Monday, 18th August 2014 (Bhadra 2nd, 2071 BS).

Kathmandu University Technical Training Center (KU TTC) has been inaugurated jointly by Minister of Education Hon'ble Mrs. Chitralekha Yadav and Ambassador of Republic of Korea H.E. Choe, Yong-Jin amid a function organized jointly by Kathmandu University and Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) in Dhulikhel of Kavre. KU Vice-Chancellor Dr. Ram Kantha Makaju Shrestha, representatives from KOICA, government officials from Ministries, KU officials, students and local people from Kavre community were also present in the function.

 

The key objective of the newly established training center is to provide skill- oriented quality training to the under-privileged and unemployed youth so as to produce skilled and technical workforce in Nepal. From early June of 2014, KU TTC has already started its pilot training programs of duration ranging from 3 month to 1 year in the field of Automobile, Carpentry, Welding and Machining.

The government of Republic of Korea provided the total grant amount of US Dollar 3.5 million through KOICA (Korea International Cooperation Agency) and KU has contributed US$ 1.1 million for the establishment of this training center. Total cost of this project reached US$ 4.6 million. During the project period, from June 2012 to September 2013, KU TTC trainers from Kathmandu University joined 3 month training programs to Korea for the technical training for each course. In 2014, five Korean experts had arrived Nepal to give ToT trainings (Training of Trainers) to the KU TTC instructors at the real field.

M. S. by Research in Glaciology

 

Kathmandu University, School of Science, Department of Environmental Science and Engineering announces admissions open for M. S. by Research in Glaciology course supported by the Cryosphere Monitoring Project (CMP) - ICIMOD funded by the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Contribution to High Asia Runoff from Ice and Snow (CHARIS) Project - The University of Colorado funded by the USAID.

ELIGIBILITY FOR ADMISSION INTO M. S. by Research in Glaciology

Students having completed 4 year Bachelor's degree in Hydrology, Meteorology, Geosciences, Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering or Civil Engineering with minimum 2.5 CGPA or 50% in aggregate marks are eligible to apply. Priority will be given to qualified female candidates, people from marginalized groups, candidates with sound health and high altitude field work experience are encouraged to apply.

SUBMISSION OF APPLICATIONS

Application forms are available at the university's administration office, School of Science, Block 06, Dhulikhel, Kavre, or on-line at the Kathmandu University, School of Science, Department of Environmental Science & Engineering website (Application Form for M. S. by Research). Submit completed application form with application fee of Rs. 1250 along with photocopies of previous academic and citizenship certificates to the department office at Dhulikhel, Kavre.

Last date of submission of application is Wednesday, 27 August 2014.

Only short listed candidates will be informed for an interview on Friday, 29 August 2014.  Orientation and classes will commence from Monday, 1 September 2014.
