1st Inter University T-20 Tournament 2013


Due to unusual weather conditions, the matches scheduled for May 30 and May 31 have been postponed. These matches will be re-scheduled at later dates and the organizers will pre-inform the participating teams on time. We are extremely sorry for this inconvenience.

In order to complete the event on schedule, the organizer is trying to arrange another venue as well so that the matches can be played parallely in both venues.

Interaction with Entrepreneurs held at CV Raman Auditorium, May 17, 2013

The interaction program entitled ‘Interaction with Entrepreneurs’ was held at the CV Raman Auditorium on May 17, 2013. Two of the eminent entrepreneurs - Kiran Joshi, Founder/CEO, Incessant Rain Animation Studios P. Ltd, and Biplav Gautam, FIFA Master (CIES) alumnus and Former Development Officer, Asian Football Confederation - shared their stories, as well as their thoughts and experiences regarding their own success amidst the students and faculty members. Both speakers emphasized the importance of upholding positive attitude for ones passion, creativity and innovation for building successful career.

During the presentation, former Head of the Digital Productions and Visual Effects Supervisor at Walt Disney, Mr. Joshi shared his enthusiasm and motivated those in attendance. He also entertained the audience by showcasing several animations he has produced till date. In the second session of the interaction, co-founder of Eventcheq, Mr. Gautam spoke about his passion for sports and marketing, and how his new-found company is working towards developing a web and mobile application that lets fans live, share and re-live their experiences at live events.


Prof. Dr. Bhadra Man Tuladhar (Registrar, Kathmandu University) felicitated the speakers by distributing token of appreciation and addressed the gathering by delivering the vote of thanks. The event - which was organized to supplement a course entitled Entrepreneurship Development -  was also attended by Prof. Dr. Bhola Thapa (Dean, School of Engineering), Prof. Dr. Panna Thapa (Dean, School of Sciences), and respective heads of the departments


FNCCI Delegation at KU

Five member delegation led by Mr. Suraj Baidya, the Chairman of Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI) paid a courtesy visit at Kathmandu University, Dhulikhel premises on 21 May, 2013.The team also included the members from International Finance Corporation (IFC, World Bank Group ) Mr. Fred Zake, Head Advisory service in South Asia and  Ms. Laura Anne Watson, Senior Private Sector Development Specialist.

Along with KU authorities, Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Ram Kantha Makaju Shrestha welcomed the guests and interacted with the possible areas of mutual collaboration between KU and FNCCI.

Both institutions agreed to form a task force for perusing areas of interest and its effective implementation in the areas of research activities, scholarship, internship, job placement, and establishing long term projects and programs at Kathmandu University. The next meeting of the task force will be held at FNCCI office on June 3rd 2013 to make the strategic planning for the implementation of agreed agenda.

Dr. Kanhaiya Jha as an Ambassador in ICM 2014:


Dr. Kanhaiya Jha of Kathmandu University has been appointed as an Ambassador of NANUM 2014 and ICM 2014 for South and West Asia (including Indian subcontinent) for promoting International Congress of Mathematicians (ICM 2014) and sharing its theme “Dreams and Hopes for late Starters” among the mathematicians in Nepal and neighboring countries. This is 27th ICM which is going to be organized in Seoul, Republic of Korea from August 13 – 21, 2014. It is the largest congress in the mathematics community. It is held once every four years under the auspices of the International Mathematical Union (IMU). The Fields Medals, the Nevanlinna Prize, the Gauss Prize, and the Chern Medal are awarded during the opening ceremony on the first day of the congress. It is the historical moment for Nepalese mathematics teachers to be included first time in the committee of ICM 2014 and is also an honor to the nation. Mr. Purusottam Kharel and Dr. Manish Pokharel, Assistant Professor, Department of Computer Science and Engineering along with Prof.  Dr. Subarana Shakya of Tribhuvan University, published a paper in title “Comparative Study of Electronic Government Infrastructure of Nepal with SAARC Nations”  holding ISBN: 978-1-4673-4969-7 in Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) Journal. The paper was published after presented in the conference in “The International Conference on E-Technologies and Business on the Web (EBW2013)”, Bangkok, Thailand from May 7-9, 2013.

Talk Delivered

Dr. Arun Sharma and Dr. Purnakanta Adhikary delivered talk on “Opportunities and Challenges the Younger Generation Faces” in an ongoing series of talk program on 20 Baisakh. The program was organized as a part of MGTS 402 Entrepreneurship course offered to Mechanical Engineering. In the program founder Vice Chancellor Dr. Suresh Raj Sharma, Registrar Dr. Bhadraman Tuladhar, Dean of School of Engineering Dr. Bhola Thapa, Dean of School of Science Dr. Panna Thapa along with the teachers, staffs and the students were present. 

Chinese Educational Exhibition Organized

Chinese Educational Exhibition was organized on 30 Baisakh in KU Central Campus to provide information about Chinese higher education. The exhibition was jointly organized by Chinese Scholarship Council, Chinese Embassy in Nepal, and Nepal-China Cultural and Educational Council. During the exhibition, a program was organized where a group of 25 representatives from 14 renowned universities met Vice Chancellor Dr. Ram Kantha Makaju Shrestha, Registrar Dr. Bhadraman Tuladhar, Exam Controller, Deans and faculty members.

On International Nurses Day, May 12, Graduation Ceremony of Certificate Level program was organized in a newly constructed auditorium in School of Medical Sciences, Dhulikhel Hospital. In the program, chief guest Vice Chancellor of KU Dr. Ramkantha Makaju Shrestha distributed certificates to 44 diploma graduates in Nursing, General Medicine, Ophthalmology, Lab Technology and Physiotherapy. The program was attended by graduating students, medical faculties, staffs, nursing staffs and students of KU and Dhulikhel Hospital. 

Dr. Yadav Offered Award

Honorable President Dr. Ram Baran Yadav granted The Pratha Trilokyanath Uprety Shikshya Award, which is offered by Kathmandu University Trilokyanath Uprety Shikshya Kendra, to the Brain Paralysed Independency Group Nepal. Dr. Yadav conferred the award in a program organized in the House of the President on May 14, 2013.

World Press Freedom Day Marked

Department of Languages and Mass Communication, School of Arts and the Embassy of the United Kingdom in Nepal jointly organized an interactive talk program to mark 20th World Press Freedom Day on 3 May.

In his talk on the status of press freedom, Ambassador of the United Kingdom to Nepal, His Excellency Andrew James Sparkes spotlighted on the importance of press freedom. His Excellency said, Nepali media has been operating vibrantly despite observable curbing on press freedom. The sense of press freedom, he added, should not be used by its practitioners for creating anarchy. Addressing questions of participants, he stated that the recent decision of Supreme Court regarding the entry of media persons does not sound commendable from the perspective of press freedom.


Registrar of the University Prof. Dr. Bhadra Man Tuladhar, Dean of School of Arts Prof. Dr. Mahesh Banskota, Dean of School of Science Prof. Dr. Panna Thapa, Director of Affiliation Affairs Prof. Dr. Sanjay Nath Khanal, head of different departments, faculties and students in Languages and Mass Communication Department, invitees from other institutions, and media persons from radio, print and visual media attended the program.



Vice Chancellor of Kathmandu University Prof. Dr. Ram Kantha Makaju Shrestha offered token of Love to His Excellency. Prof. Dr. Jangab Chauhan welcomed the invitees and Prof. Dr. Mahesh Banskota concluded the program with short remarks. The program was run by Khagendra Acharya.
