Study and Design of Satellite Communication Link for VSAT Network

Because of the geographical constraints in the transmission of signals, the wired communication is not feasible and so communication using this medium is often limited. To overcome this limitation, satellite communication was developed. Because of the immense use of long distance telephone service, television, internet and radio broadcasting, satellite communication has now become world-wide. Satellites are launched for various purposes like communication, experiment, weather expedition, navigational, and observational purposes by military as well as commercial purpose.

We have concentrated our study on communication satellite especially the VSATs. In VSAT system small earth stations are employed to receive and transmit from and to the satellite stations. Satellites which are kept distant apart from earth surface act as repeaters. Satellite communication is gaining momentum in Nepal because of its service in every nook and corner of the country.

This project is mainly focused on the link parameters study, the propagation equations, the various loss factors, link budget calculations, modulations and other multiple accesses and simulation of different aspects of the overall system. This report involves all the theoretical and simulated elaboration of the above mentioned aspects.
