Quality Assessment of Commercial Audio Transducers

In this project, qualities of the audio transducers were evaluated using various techniques. The transducers which are to be evaluated in terms of their quality cannot be done in an open environment. Hence the whole experiments are carried out in an anechoic chamber, a sound absorbing chamber, and the sound from the outside is also resisted to so that it cannot interfere with the ongoing experiment. There are a set of good microphones and speakers in respect which other transducers are calibrated. The setup is simple if the microphone is to be evaluated then the good quality speaker is kept in one corner of the anechoic chamber and the microphone are placed in different position according to its tests and same type of strategy is also applied in evaluating the speaker too. Hence looking at the response in the oscilloscope, the range of frequency where the transducer is best is known. Different types of tests consequently find sensitivity, directivity, lobe pattern etc of the given sound transducer.
