Cell Search and Dynamic Cell Configuration in WCDMA

Code division multiple access is a frequency division duplex (FDD) system operating at 1920-1980MHz band for the uplink and 2110-2170MHz band for the downlink. The 3G Systems are intended to provide a global mobility with wide range of services including telephony, paging, messaging, Internet and broadband data. Services like mobile video telephony, quick access to the information, fast download of data etc. are the crucial demand of the current economically, technologically, socially advancing world. The objective of the 3G communication systems is to accommodate all these demands.

In context of our project, it is basically focused on the cell search and dynamic cell configuration procedure only. To get along with this we studied and gained the basic knowledge requirement of the WCDMA system. We also continuously consulted to our project supervisor and also extracted some information from NTC regarding this matter.

We successfully performed the simulation of the cell search procedure in GUI, and the result was as per the prediction and requirement. The procedure is itself a complicated process and much of it are beyond the scope of our level, so it was simplified while performing the simulation. The process will be discussed in a step­wise sequence of approach that we have followed in our project. The programming was initially performed in normal Matlab window and later mapped to GUI for more clear and systematic depiction of the results.

Along with it, due to the lack of availability of the sufficient information regarding dynamic cell configuration and its complexity we could not implement it in simulation in time. But the parameter such as GOS was calculated for each cell which is required for further performing the dynamic cell configuration.
