Signal Processing for Telemedicine

The information about various blocks that have been used in our project is included in the report. Telemedicine broadly encompasses the technology of transmission of medical data from one site to another. Basically used for "online" consultation between experts it aims at improving patient care and treatment.

The project is mainly based on the signal processing and transmission of the ECG signal where the signal is sampled at desired rate such that the important information required for diagnosis of cardiac disorders is not lost.

This project is divided into three units:

  •     ECG amplifier use to generate appropriate signal for processing
  •     Hardware use to transmit and receive the signal through power line
  •     The signal processing, transmitting, receiving and monitoring unit

ECG amplifier is used to convert the cardiac movement of heart into electrical signal for the processing using ECG sensors. Transmitting unit includes hardware which is used to transmit the processed signal through power line. Signal processing unit is used for sampling the signal, filtering compression of signal, and transmitting to the destination. Receiving and monitoring unit is used to convert the received digital into original form and for observation purpose.

This project report provides information on how a power line as a narrow band communication medium may be utilized for telemedicine. It outlines the design and the implementation of the system for the purpose. Also, various knowledge related to communication theory, signal processing and telemedicine field may be gained and aid may be taken to design and implement appropriate communication system for specific purpose.
