Rural Telecommunication Development

This project deals with the present scenario of telecommunication in rural Nepal. The study focuses on the alternative technology which will be cost effective and feasible in rural context.

Why is development of communication lagging behind in rural areas and how can we overcome the hurdles?

This is the main focus of the project. The project primarily focuses on the present scenario of communication sector in rural areas. During research social, economic, geographic and demographic aspects were considered.

Literature suggests various communication alternatives but wireless networking with VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) technology seems relatively easier to implement and maintain. Further more it is cheaper to establish, operate and maintain. But use of hardware of IEEE standard 802.11 b is still illegal in our country. If we could design such networks and show the benefits it brings, may be we could convince the government to legalize such system. So, as the final part of our project, we are discussing the system and analyzing different design factors including the link budget for such network.
