Fiber Distributed Campus Network Design and Performance Analysis

Networking among different workstations is very important in present day context. The sharing of information among different parties is essential. Thus, the network should be fast, reliable, and efficient. Optical fiber based computer networks are gaining popularity day by day mainly because of its advantages over existing copper cables.

The project is related to better utilization of the optical fiber network capability. The main objective of the project was to expand the current network present in Kathmandu University to such an extent that the performance level does not deteriorate. Although this project deals with the theoretical analysis of the network, both present and expanded, practical implementations could be made based on the results obtained. In order to increase the networking capacity of Kathmandu University at a relatively low cost compared to its advantages, this project can be very helpful. The project was completed in three phases Research, Design and Performance Analysis.
