Protection of Parallel Feeders Using Microcontroller Based Relay

It is a project focused on implementing microcontroller with additional hardware as a relay. Relay is a device which senses abnormal conditions on a power system by constantly monitoring electrical quantities of the system, which differ under normal and abnormal conditions. The basic electrical quantities which are likely to change during abnormal conditions are current, voltage and phase angle. Microcontroller senses one or more of these quantities to detect abnormal conditions on a feeder line. This relay is further implemented for the protection of two -parallel feeders. In case of fault in any feeder, the faulty feeder is isolated from supply and the healthy feeder continues its operation. So, the reliability of the system increases.

This report consists of all the technicality and theoretical aspects associated with microcontroller based relay. It will help to realize the advantages of the microcontroller based relay over its counterparts such as electromagnetic and static relays. With the slight modification in the program helps to realise it as different relays varying from instantaneous to inverse time relays.
